Polypropylene ("OLEFIN")

Composition

A fiber-forming substance is any long-chain synthetic polymer composed of at least 85% by mass of ethene, propene, or other olefin units.

Cleaning Considerations

  1. Olefin has oleophilic properties, making oil stains hard to remove.
  2. It has re-soiling issues from sticky residues and may become stiff and darken if it is a fine-denier velvet, affecting appearance retention.
  3. Olefin is the least resilient of all petroleum-based synthetics, and apparent soil from scratches on the filaments will be worse than with polyester.

Chemical Considerations

  1. It is sensitive to ultraviolet light.
  2. It lacks resiliency and is susceptible to abrasions.
