Polyester ("PET")

Composition

Purified terephthalic acid ("PTA") and monoethylene glycol (MEG) are key components of polyester, which is a thermoplastic material.

Cleaning Considerations

  1. This material holds odors and is hard to remove oil stains from.
  2. It lacks resiliency and readily shows abrasions from usage and maintenance.
  3. Improper residues can lead to re-soiling.
  4. Its high density and shorter pile height make it tougher to clean.
  5. Bonnet cleaning is not recommended.
  6. It may melt from steam heat.

Chemical Considerations

Applying strong alkalines or bleaches when needed is unlikely to adversely affect the dye in polyester
